happy halloween!

Happy Halloween. I decided, after spying a feathery head at Forever21, to go as Kenley from Project Runway. Below and more traditional costume, on a very adorable child.

editorial portrait – Allie Covarrubias

Dynamo. Can so fantastic a person be described in one word, one image?  Not exactly.

I am working on a new series of editorial portraits for entrepreneurs, and Allie was one of my first subjects.  We decided to shoot in and round her loft.  This was one of the images she picked for her next speaking engagement at UC Berkeley.

wedding postcard from – palm springs

Into the desert, into the heat of a Saturday afternoon. We were nestled in a beautiful property in Palm Springs, Cielo Estate. Picturesque setting with gorgeous architecture and design in each room, in every corner and wall an lovely vingette. Radiating warmth, not only from the desert sun but from the love between the bride and groom. Family and a select group of friends attended this intimate setting, to witness the promises of love and two lives pledged together as one. The ceremony was followed by a cocktail hour poolside, and a delectable dinner served under a canopy of palm trees and lanterns. There was a special and easy energy to the day, and we enjoyed every moment with Andy and Julie.

A few images to share, of a wonderful Saturday afternoon with an enchanting couple and those closest to them.

tori and enver

Months and months ago we planned to do a portrait shoot with Tori ( of Little Fish) and Enver (of Disateroid) . But we had to put everything on hold, as Enver’s eye was gravely injured in a freak champagne cork incident.  Happily, though the damage wasn’t permanent, as you can see.  And, thank goodness, as he does still see.  I met up with them this morning at their house near San Francisco’s Ocean Beach.  Perfect surfing day, and we went over to the beach dunes.  Here are my favorites from the portrait session this morning.

wedding post card from – malibu

Somehow I forget that Malibu isn’t just beach breaks and ocean views. It’s way bigger than that, also full of beautiful hills and ranches. Saturday Joanne and Hil were married at the Calamigos Ranch under a beautiful tree, beneath a canopy of branches and light just as the sun ducked behind the hills, cooling us off in the twilight. A friend was the officiant, and he was so moved by his role and his love for the bride and groom that he choked up during the ceremony. True emotions wove through the wedding party, the family, the guests.

In her normal life, Joanne works as an event planner, and she had everything designed and coordinated beautifully. She even hand string the crystals for the decor, and created the paper lantern chandelier that hung over the dance floor. After dinner, Hil swapped out his dress shoes for white chucks and Joanne changed dresses and they entertained the crowd with a first dance interpreting their courtship, proposal and romance.

In addition to their gorgeous wedding cake, they also had a full buffet of Philipino desserts.

After the ceremony, in absolute unbridled delight, Joanne looked at her new husband with such an honest and wonderful expression of joy. This has to be one of my favorite moments from the entire day. See for yourself.
