cake

Gabrielle Feuersinger, the baker and cake decorator behind Cake Coquette, asked me to photograph one of her lastest creations recently at the Bellevue Club in Oakland.  Created to fit the aesthetic of the client and also compliment the grand ballroom on the fourth floor, the cake was extraordinary in it’s execution.

Here are a few images, including some details of the hand gold leafing, and the pearl dusted fleur-de-lis.

wedding postcard from – Elysian Park, Los Angeles

Saturday was a gorgeous day in Los Angeles, at the Grace E. Simons Lodge tucked into Eylsian Park.  Once I arrived, it was hard to even imagine that a huge city lay outside of the periphery of treetops.  Behind the lodge, a terraced and landscaped area perfect for portraits against the bridge, the brightly green waters flowing, and flowers.

Incorporating vintage elements family heirlooms, recreating Scott’s grandfather’s traditional shirt, a glance at an antique pocketwatch, Zoey’s grandmother’s necklace woven into the bouquet. And little quirky bits of their personalities came through, in tiered presentations of delectable cupcakes at each table, a monkey cake topper, and cast of Pez dispenser characters for each guest.

The ceremony was held at the base of the water, and two good friends joined forces to officiate, repurposing a business book, to hold their notes and vows.  After the celebrations inside the Lodge, Zoey and Scott made their exit in a classic Rolls Royce.  Off to enjoy their honeymoon in New Zealand.

Wonderful working with rebel Los Angeles wedding planner Laura Guerrie of Rebel Belle Weddings, who kept things going smoothly all day. A few favorites from the wedding:

portrait of a florist

Amidst the fall colors and a display of wreaths in his shop, local florist, Christopher Burnett of Petals on West Portal Avenue gave me a few moments to make his portrait, before he was back to creating delicious bouquets and consulting with brides.

in search of the lyrical

An image from a walk I took, with my camera, and the willpower to not look at any of the images until I got home. Just a little reminder of the anticipation of film days. Not in focus, but I liked the movement in this, and the color.

little Beatriz

Beatriz is definitely a captivating child, who is an absolute joy to spend time with.  Here she is enjoying a moment on the rocking horse, after shedding her Halloween costume.  I love this sequence of her enjoying herself.
