portrait – Steve Jester of public barber

A few weeks ago, I spent a morning helping a friend document his carpentry work for his portfolio. It turned out to be a very interesting morning.  Just a year into living in San Francisco, and there is much to discover.  The last stop on our urban odyssey was Public Barber Salon.

It is quite a space, with an unusual mix of repurposed materials and  the wall facing the row of chairs is completely dedicated to showcasing local artists.

Since I had my camera just in my hand, I asked the Steve if he would mind if I took his portrait.

portrait – Espinoza Family

One of my favorites children to photograph, Beatriz came in on Saturday with her mom, her dad, and her dog, Biggie. I love this image, before everyone got in the groove and we were just placing positions.  This pre official portrait take gives a great glimpse into the studio.

portrait – cold morning in the park

We squeezed in a quick family session on Friday on a chilly winter morning in San Francisco.

portrait shoot

Juliet of Juliet Nicole Photography invited me to join her for a shoot last week.  The train yard location she chose was quite a nice juxtaposition to the lovely models.

A few of my favorites from the shoot.

Happy Holidays

All the best with this Holiday season, and wishing everyone an extraordinary New Year.

Foggy evening sidewalk, the surface of what stretches out in front of me, and the long shadows approaching.

portrait – author Catherine Royce

When I was visiting Dorchester (in Boston) last summer, I enjoyed several visits with a family friend, Catherine Royce. Catherine has just published a book, and the author’s picture is a portrait I made of her during one of our visits.  Catherine is one of my many neighborhood moms, mother of two of my childhood playmates, and is a wonderful friend to everyone in my family. Her book, Wherever I Am, I’m Fine (Letters About Living While Dying) is now available at Xlibris.

Storefront in the Richmond.  I loved all the angles and the planes and textures of this little urban vignette.

WPJA contest results

Last night I found out that one of my groom portraits had placed in the latest WPJA contest.
