A few production stills from the Ars Magna shoot with Rough Mountain Studios. I’ve been collaborating with Justin and Danielle from Rough Mountain on a series of videos using visual thinking in photography. Thanks to Andrew Kubica for coming by the shoot to take some stills.

on the road | Los Angeles | Backyard Film Screening

I flew in early in LA for Dan and Grace’s wedding, and the night before my friend filmmaker Kelly Sears invited me to a backyard screening. Tucked away in a steeply graded backyard, a makeshift screen was set up. Popcorn was passed out, and we sat in makeshift bleachers while we watched a series of short films and animations from local filmmakers.

Thanks for inviting me, Kelly. I love outdoor film going.

Trent and I spent the first day of 2009 enjoying the natural beauty of Northern California, specifically spending some time with the dog at Muir Beach. The wind was sharp, the trail fairly crowded, but looking west to the water, it was enormously peaceful. I sat and looked at this for a long time. Could this be an equivalent? Possibly.

An image from a walk I took, with my camera, and the willpower to not look at any of the images until I got home. Just a little reminder of the anticipation of film days. Not in focus, but I liked the movement in this, and the color.
